Therefore we decide to narrow our argument down to one question, namely the usages of two Japanese verbs (\u0027iru\u0027 and \u0027aru\u0027) which mean usually \u0027to be\u0027 or \u0027to exist\u0027, to build the firm fundament of our consideration. And we refer the Japanese linguistic studies of this problem to avoid falling into empty speculation. Conventional studies have presented the two points of view. Some researchers say the difference between \u0027iru\u0027 and \u0027aru\u0027 is based on the category of subject of these verbs (what the subject is), and some insist that the difference of \u0027iru\u0027 and \u0027aru\u0027 is based on the attitudes of speakers (how the speaker think or feel).
