Ther are several misunderstandings on his career; when and where he was born, what school he studied, where and what he undertook before came to Japan, and to whom and when he married. Inquiring the original materials in Britain as well as in Japan, I try to resolve these confusions. On the other hand Mr. Morel, who was an Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, made some important propositions other than his profession to the Japanese Government; it should found the national institution of technology to educate the young talents, and establish the ministry of public works to develop effectively.In this article, I inquire the background of his contributions at the beginning of Meiji Era, considering his characteristic career.I disclose, for the convenience of the followers of this theme, the results on my investigation at National Archives especially with reference to Morel in Labuan.}, pages = {381--420}, title = {鉄道技師 : モレルの経歴と貢献}, volume = {7}, year = {2006} }
