However, there is the need to solve a number of problems before PEV's become viable alternatives of transportation. For example, reduction of battery charge time, improvement of battery performance, and reduction in vehicle cost. A way to improve battery performance is to use lithium ion batteries. One problem with lithium ion batteries is with charging (recharging). It is difficult to provide a constant voltage evenly distributed to cells connected in a series. As a result, the expected full battery capacity is not attained. The cause is in the method used to charge lithium ion batteries. This article suggests a way to charge lithium ion batteries, and attain even distribution of voltage, and charge batteries to full capacity.
