The situation is causing various problems. In this study, the causes for the present increase of vacant houses in Daito City （Osaka Prefecture） are isolated and focus is directed at the population trend of Daito. It is noted that a large number of vacant houses were constructed during the period of high economic growth. After verifying the distribution of vacant houses in each town district based on the vacant house fact-finding questionnaire survey conducted by the Daito municipality, map information such as aerial photographs and land use surveys, and census results, along with construction records were also analyzed.
