Yet little is known about conditions and factors that facilitate migrant-returnees to achieve economic independence and reintegrate into their own societies. Using research findings on initiatives in Java to render work for former migrants in the food, and the agriculture, this article considers organizational factors behind the reintegration process. It shows how sustainable reintegration is a social process requiring not only the self-determination of former migrants but also organizational support from NGO activists.
