 note = {Regional development through the introduction and use of renewable energy sources is attracting much attention. A major point of contention concerns the formulation of policies and institutional structuring to facilitate a virtuous circle when incorporating renewable energy in regional economic cycles. These issues require a comprehensive approach that integrates the perspectives of public policy, local communities, economy and industry. This paper examines the impact of introducing renewable energy on a local economy and the role of local communities in rural areas such as Bavaria (Germany), where field research was conducted.
