In short, we argue that the time has come for research to inquire from the perspective of building a multicultural symbiotic society in Japan. In this study, we carry out a meta-analysis of the research on contact situations published in the past five years and evaluate the potential for research on contact situations to contribute to Japanese society’s rapid shift toward multicultural symbiosis.
