| 内容記述 | This paper is an examination of the responses made by ChatGPT when prompted with Eiken writing questions. ChatGPT was fed writing questions from level Pre-2 up to level 1 of the Eiken test of English proficiency using three different types of prompts. First, ChatGPT was simply fed the question without further instruction. Next, ChatGPT was instructed to write its answers following each level’s guidelines concerning length, style, and keywords. Finally, ChatGPT was prompted to regenerate its response at a high school level. The responses were analyzed for their style and readability. The results showed that, without a prompt, ChatGPT’s responses tended to be long, have a formulaic introduction followed by a bullet-point list looking at multiple aspects of the question’s topic, and written in academic language. When prompted with Eiken’s own instructions, the responses were concise, written in paragraph form at an even higher level of difficulty. Finally, when asked to write at a high school level, the responses used much more casual language with the difficulty ranging from a high elementary to a high school level. | |||||||||||
